Description
Don’t sleep on this ultra-rare 1996 T serial Rolex Daytona 16520 investment-piece. This is the coveted “Zenith Daytona” as well as having the highly collectible “Patrizzi” dial.
Watch and fresh appraisal/authentication paperwork are included in this sale. This example has been verified authentic and the T serial matches the production run of the “error dial Patrizzi.”
This example has been left in unpolished condition. My watchmaker inspected the movement and could tell it has never been open. “Immaculate” inside were his words. Not a speck of dust or scratch anywhere. Since this is a piece that will go to an avid collector, we have left it untouched so that the new owner can decide who gets to service the movement. That said, it’s still running well and all functions work as they should.
I use a macro lens, so please inspect photos carefully as the harsh light makes the lived-in scratches appear to be worse than they are. Don’t be fooled, this Patrizzi Daytona is a stunner on the wrist.
History of the “Patrizzi” Daytona: For roughly two years from 1995 to 1996 Rolex used a faulty finish on its sub-dials on the black Daytona. Rolex fixed the error after roughly two years of production making the “Patrizzi” very rare and highly coveted amongst avid collectors.
Since the lacquer used was faulty, after many years the sub-dials will turn a yellow-ish, pumpkin, and then even a brownish color due to oxidation. The more uv exposure the watch gets, the sub-dials get darker and darker. Some Patrizzi sub-dials have turned a brownish-copper color.
The darker the sub-dials get the more this watch is worth. Dark brown sub-dials have been sold for around $100k making this piece a great value for future investment as its sub-dials continue to change color.
Each Patrizzi is essentially a one-of-a-kind since no two are the same.
